We’re only two weeks into the season and already the NFC South is heating up. The Panthers will travel to Atlanta to face their division rivals Womens Da'Norris Searcy Jersey , the Falcons, this Sunday. Carolina is coming off an impressive 16-8 win over Dallas. The Cowboys challenged the Panthers offense, holding Cam Newton to a modest 161 yards in the air. However, Newton lead the team in rushing with 58 yards and a touchdown. Sunday’s win didn’t come without cost, though. The Panthers lost tight end Greg Olsen and right tackle Daryl Williams in their debut.Like the Panthers, the Falcons suffered two huge blows from their Thursday night loss against the Eagles. Their defense is now without two Pro Bowlers, safety Keanu Neal and middle linebacker Deion Jones. Even with the injury to Neal during the game, Atlanta’s defense still looked solid. On offense, Julio Jones was stellar against the defending Super Bowl champs despite Matt Ryan completing fewer than half of his passes. The Panthers are 1-3 against the Falcons over the last two seasons and are now six point underdogs against Atlanta. Here are three keys for Carolina’s offense to defeat the Falcons:Let Cam be Cam: Norv Turner likes the run-pass option. Against the Cowboys, Newton decided to use his legs. He broke out with some big runs that kept their defense off guard. Atlanta losing Neal means they won’t have their big hitter and run stuffer. With the Falcons now lacking in run support, Cam should continue to do his thing on the ground. Beat the Birds in the air: Losing Jones is also irreplaceable for the Falcons. He was a beast in coverage mode. Falcons head coach Dan Quinn will have to do a lot of shifting to fill the void of Jones and Neal. Although Panthers are reeling in their own loss of Olsen, there’s plenty of young talent able to step up. Sunday’s match-up will be a realistic opportunity to test out the fresh tight ends. Not to mention, Panthers still have one of the most versatile receiving corps in the league. Protect Newton: Carolina’s offensive line is a patchwork right now. Cowboys defense was able to sack Newton a total of three times. Dallas also pressured Newton on 43% of his drop backs.Atlanta might be feeling the heat of losing their two best defensive players Youth Donte Jackson Jersey , but they still have plenty of talent. Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett is a fine interior pass rusher who can put on the pressure and hit. Defensive end Vic Beasley was quiet in the season opener, but it’s only a matter of time until he gets back into rhythm, so don’t sleep on him. Similar to the Panthers, Atlanta has been bitten early by the injury bug. This game will come down to which team is able to adjust and utilize their remaining talent the best.Panthers Film Analysis: Will the Panthers increase play-action passing under Norv Turner? The goal of each pre-season is to evaluate ninety players in hopes of trimming down the roster to fifty-three players by Labor Day Weekend. That is also the case with Carolina Panthers, but they have their work cut out due to the new offensive system being installed under Norv Turner. As Ron Rivera stated in his press conference yesterday, former Panthers coordinator Rob Chudzinski was a member of Turner’s staff in San Diego. There is a familiarity of the base concepts, but with Turner at the helm the offense will receive a first hand glimpse into the playbook. Increased play-action?Based on two pre-season games, Turner is focusing on increasing the play-action passing game. Cam Newton’s success on play-action has been mixed, however. For reference, Newton’s play-action success was average in 2017 too. Despite a low frequency of these throws, Newton’s completion percentage was 62.9%, 7.0 YPA, and an NFL passer rating of 96.7. (via PFF)However Color Rush David Mayo Jersey , PFF does count RPO’s as play-action passes. Newton’s splits were more clear in this regard. After watching some of Newton’s play-action throws this pre-season, the consensus I found in his lackluster production originate from his mechanics when he’s executing the fake. This is a textbook fake from Newton. He reaches the ball out to Christian McCaffrey, which draws the linebackers towards the line of scrimmage. Eventually, Alex Armah is allowed to slip towards the flat by himself. On the contrary, here is an example of Newton’s poor mechanics when faking the hand off. The result is an incredibly difficult throw into a tight window, which results in an interception. Yes, Newton under threw the ball too but the window could have been wider if the linebacker was removed.Miami’s linebackers don’t bite on the action, which gives them ample room to pick up Greg Olsen. With RPO’s the fake doesn’t have to be executed perfectly, which is why I hope Turner installs more of these concepts. Newton is able to read the boundary safety dropping into the box before the snap. This provides him the signal to target Jairus Wright on the back shoulder fade. The reduced split Wright takes up makes this an easier throw for Newton.I have long been a proponent of increasing the play-action concepts for Newton. Despite his production this pre-sesaon, there is evidence on the whole that play-action is more effective than non play-action. In addition, the long held belief that rushing the football well leads to more play-action success is also being questioned. Play-action passes should be a staple of the Panthers offense in 2018, but Newton has to become more consistent when he’s delivering the fake.
