While Modders like Martinez had been working on Madden 20 coins the console versions over the previous 10 years, the PC version gave them more accessibility to the Frostbite game engine that programmer EA uses. The Madden modders piggybacked the communities of other games which use Frostbite from, such as EA's Battlefield franchise. Mods, while incredibly common, are not strictly legal. End-user license agreements (EULA) typically contain language prohibiting Madden NFL players from modifying in-game files, although most studios take a relaxed way of handling communities like this one.

"The copyright holder gets the right, but unlike trademarks that they don't have to protect it," attorney Richard Hoeg said when asked about how publishers can respond and halt modders. "If you examine the EA permit, you are not technically allowed to stream, but there are plenty of Twitch streamers playing Madden." Hoeg, who runs a YouTube Show known as Virtual Legality that assesses applications and video game legislation, states that modders are infringing on EA's copyright, however, publishers are unlikely to send a cease and desist unless the modders do something to hurt their brand or strain EA's connection with the NFL.

"If EA seems at your content and finds it's not offensive they may see it as improving the quality of their merchandise," Hoeg explained. "However, the NFL is an incredibly litigious organization[.] Should they discover something and flag it could lead to it becoming removed." Most of what the modding community does could be considered favorable, but there also have been efforts to introduce off-the-field issues common inside the NFL within Madden. For instance, modders have attempted to replicate holdouts and suspensions because of illegal performance enhancing drugs by adding in-game events that would interrupt the franchise mode and induce the Madden NFL player to bargain with them. The modders Launcher spoke with for this story said they've encountered trouble in creating this job within Madden's inflexible systems.

"The NFL will be mainly concerned about brand good will, being correlated with cheap Madden nfl 20 coins the terrible parts of football," Hoeg said. "They are likely to encourage [EA] to remove that." The Madden community does not work in secrecy, but it's spread across different forums and programs like Discord. "We have been in existence for such a long time, I don't see what could change with EA today," Martinez explained. "We do not charge, it is all totally free. We're building something and hope to continue to see it expand "
