PHILADELPHIA -- Right-hander Chad Gaudin has signed a minor-league contract with the Philadelphia Phillies and will be invited to spring training. Gaudin was 5-2 with a 3.06 ERA in 30 games last year for the San Francisco Giants. He made 12 starts and held hitters to a .227 batting average. The Phillies announced the move on Tuesday. The 30-year-old Gaudin began last season with 18 relief appearances and posted a 2.05 ERA in those games before moving to the starting rotation in June. His season ended in mid-August when he was placed on the disabled list with carpal tunnel syndrome. Gaudin is 45-44 with a 4.44 ERA in 344 games, including 87 starts, for Tampa, Toronto, Oakland As, Chicago Cubs, San Diego, New York Yankees, Washington, Miami and the Giants. Phil Esposito Jersey . Wainwright allowed one hit, facing one batter over the minimum and very few hard-hit balls, and the St. Louis Cardinals ended an eight-game home run drought with long balls from Matt Adams and Jhonny Peralta in a 5-0 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday night. "Ive had some times in my career where I felt like I had the stuff to do it," Wainwright said. "And today I had the stuff to do it," Wainwright said. Working on six days rest because of a rainout and day off, Wainwright (7-2) retired the first 11 batters before Paul Goldschmidt doubled off the wall in centre with two outs in the fourth. He matched his season best with nine strikeouts, fanning A.J. Pollock twice. "Goldschmidt, hes a very good hitter. I dont ever second-guess a pitch to Goldy out there," Wainwright said.
